10:00 a.m. Departure from the hotel. Welcome to the River Safari—Asia’s first and only river-themed wildlife park. On the river safari, you’ll explore the ecosystem of river and lake inhabitants. You’ll experience the incredible diversity of wildlife found in the rivers and waterways of Southeast Asia and around the world. Freshwater ecosystems have been and remain incredibly important to human civilization, especially in Southeast Asia, where human life depended entirely on rivers and lakes at the dawn of civilization and even well into the 20th century. After all, 45% of all fish species in the world inhabit freshwater bodies. The River Safari Park is divided into six themed zones, each showcasing the animals that inhabit the six largest and most important rivers in the world: the Mississippi, the Congo, the Nile, the Mekong, the Ganges, the Yangtze, and the Amazon. Each themed zone introduces visitors to the culture and customs of the respective region. The park is home to about 5,000 animals and fish, including anacondas, electric eels, Mekong freshwater stingrays, West Indian manatees, Mekong giant catfish, and Chinese alligators. The park’s jewels are two charming pandas: the cheerful and lively Kai Kai and the modest, shy Jia Jia. These adorable «bespectacled» bears are an unofficial symbol of China and perennial favorites among the park’s visitors. Return to the hotel around 1:30 p.m.
